Life is really just a lesson in finding the balance between fear and courage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can therapy help me?

Everyone is faced with various challenges throughout life. Sometimes, it can be helpful to have a neutral, nonjudgmental third party to assist you in navigating and processing through these challenges and to offer a different perspective. Therapy provides a space where you have the opportunity to better understand yourself, utilize your strengths in order to problem-solve, explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, improve communication, and learn healthy coping strategies to face the challenges life throws your way.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes! I firmly believe it is important to find the right fit in a therapist. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation where you can share what you would like to work on in therapy, as well as ask me any questions you might have in order to help determine if I am a good fit for you.

What do sessions look like? How can I get the most out of therapy?

I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet the specific needs of each client. Sessions will focus on the goals you and I have established, as well as what you personally bring in to process through each time we meet. It is often beneficial to reflect on what you feel would be most helpful to work on prior to coming to session. In order to get the most out of sessions, your dedication and commitment to the work will be key to your success. This entails consistently showing up to sessions and practicing skills we discuss outside of session.

What can I expect in the first session?

Before your first session, you will complete the initial intake paperwork. At the beginning of your first session, we will review these together, and you will have time to ask any questions that arose while completing the paperwork. Following this, we will spend the rest of session going into more detail about what brings you to therapy, current challenges you are facing, and what your hopes are for sessions. Together, we will identify goals we will work on together throughout your therapeutic journey.

How often do we meet?

When beginning therapy, I recommend starting with weekly sessions. The first sessions are important for building a secure attachment to your therapist so that sessions can be effective. Every individual’s needs are different. Sometimes, after meeting weekly for a few months, some individuals prefer to move to every other week, while others prefer to stay weekly. If you are curious about what might be best for you, I encourage you to bring this up in session.

How long will it take?

Every individual’s situation and needs are unique to them. Thus, the length of time in therapy, and how quickly you will accomplish your goals depends on your specific needs, the reasons that led you to seek therapy, your commitment to the work in and out of session, and your aspirations for personal growth.

Why not just take medication instead?

Medication can be effective; however, medication alone only treats the symptom. Therapy assists in addressing the root causes of your distress, identifying ineffective behavioral patterns that inhibit progress, and offers new insights into healthy coping skills in an effort to support you achieving your goals. Sometimes, the combination of medication and therapy can be helpful. If you are interested in exploring this option, I encourage you to reach out to a psychiatrist for support.

Are sessions in-person or telehealth? Which is more effective?

I offer both in-person sessions and telehealth sessions. For some individuals, it is more convenient to meet via telehealth and/or they prefer to meet from the comfort of their own homes. Others prefer and enjoy the connection that in-person sessions provide. When thinking of which option is best for you, it is important to consider your level of comfort and what will work best for you. Both options can be effective.

Is therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the most important components in a therapeutic relationship. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust between the client and therapist. However, there are certain limitations to confidentiality. I am a mandated reporter for any suspected child or elder abuse, as well as am required to report to the proper authorities if you are in danger of harming yourself or others. In your initial paperwork, you will be provided with a written copy of the confidentiality agreement.
